Discovering Pastel Pleasures – Teacher:
Jean Lajaunie
Whether inexperienced or experienced, participants will produce ready-to-frame
art in each of the classes. Pastels are a unique painting medium in that
the colors are mixed on the paper by overlaying or blending, rather than
on a palette. They are pure pigment and are the most permanent of all
fine art paints. It does not crack, fade, or yellow with age. The one-day
class will be held Saturdays, April 18 or June 2 or June 13 from 9:30
a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost $62.50. Max. 20.
Supplies: Starter set soft pastels. Should be approximately 12 sticks and
should state
“
SOFT” and should be for general use not specifically listed for portraits,
landscapes, etc.
1 charcoal pencil #2 or darker, soft white pastel pencil. (Be sure it is
the softest white available); OPTIONAL – starter set of Conte Pastel
Pencils, good pencil sharpener or utility knife with new blade, 1 sheet
either: pastel board (can be cut to whatever size you want OR artist sand
paper (can be cut to whatever size you want) OR heavy toothed watercolor
paper OR pastel paper (paper is not mounted and comes in multiple colors)
NOTE: These papers/boards can be purchased at Hobby Lobby and/or any other
art supply stores and can be purchased in several colors, usually gray,
green, white or tan. Bring a picture you would like to paint. I would suggest
that you not work on portraits at this time: however, flowers, animals,
birds, still life or landscapes will work well. |
